I think some people's brains are just flipped over to "Read Only" mode thus rendering them incapable of processing new information no matter how obvious or abundant.
I have to wonder what it would take for people like this to really get the message. Losing a spouse or child? How cold-hearted is this bastard that he could put his kids through all this stress and then still refuse to protect them, knowing what could happen?
