Fun fact, as of 2019 (pre-covid), people working full time at minimum wage are incapable of owning a single bedroom apartment any where in the country.

I'm probably never gonna own land, have a family, or retire. I might work until I drop dead or conveniently become homeless again. but that's ok, I still make enough to have a phone plan and browse reddit for hope, coupons, skills, and market changes. one day things will change.

I’m a late boomer/early gen x, and boomers that blame millennials are the biggest hypocrites. Their job, whilst not much pay in 2020 terms bought them a house and a car. In the mid 60s £5k would buy you a house, mid 80s £10k, mid 90s £50k, mid 00s £100k, mid 10s £150k.. it doesn’t take a genius to work out wages haven’t risen by the same amount as houses. You can see exactly when the prices shot up, Maggie T.’s Right to Buy scheme in the 80s and everyone jumps on the property bandwagon buying up houses as investments, and in one generation all the affordable housing is snapped up by landlords buying to let. Housing became a commodity and prices skyrocketed. Add to that the stagnation in most people’s wages since 2009 and you have a perfect storm of despair for the next generation.
