Why would anyone laugh about it? He's working. Doing an honest job to support his family. That's not shameful at all.
And look how his daughter reacted. He's a good dad who raised a good young woman.
He can be proud of himself.
edit: Guys, you don't need to explain to me that there are people out there who look down upon others. I understand that classism exists. I just think it's stupid and we shouldn't care what others think about us. He's doing his best and can be proud of himself. The people that are important to him and that truly matter already think that way, so who cares about the others? I understand that the world is unfair. But I don't wanna let others bring me down because of their stupid world view.
