actually , there is no law preventing felons from being firefighters they are just rarely chosen over a non-felon, there is actually already an active program as well as pending legislation that would create more of a pathway for inmate firefighters to do firefighting and/or other environmental response work once released
that being said, even the phrasing of "LMFAO NO" is really an understatement when it comes to compensation for this obviously extremely hard and dangerous work. these guys can be paid as low as $3.90 per hour and max out at $6.12 an hour, obviously no benefits of any kind. its truly disgusting especially when you consider that only inmates who have non-sexual crimes, a history of good behavior, and less than five years on their sentence are even allowed to do this.
