Britney Spears is reportedly seeking to remove her father Jamie Spears as her sole conservator 12 years after he assumed the role, according to court documents filed by the singer’s attorney.

Following the #FreeBritney movement gaining traction across social media in recent months, it has now been revealed that the 38-year-old has officially requested that her father step down from the role which sees him have control over her finances, relationships, and when she can see her two sons Preston, 14, and Jayden, 13.

According to a document filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court by her lawyer, Samuel Ingham, “Britney is strongly opposed” to having her father, James “Jamie” Spears, continue as the sole conservator of her financial affairs.

Instead, Spears is reportedly hoping Jodi Montgomery, the temporary state-appointed conservator of her person for the past year, will also oversee her financial affairs.

“Without in any way waiving her right to seek termination of this conservatorship in the future, Britney would like Ms. Montgomery’s appointment as conservator of her person to be made permanent,” Ingham wrote. “She strongly prefers to have a qualified corporate fiduciary appointed to serve (as conservator of her estate).”

Ingham added that he believes that Britney’s new “objectives” will be “aggressively contested” by Jamie Spears.

Jamie and attorney Andrew Wallet were appointed as the “Lucky” singer’s conservators in February 2008 after her Spears suffered a public breakdown following her divorce from Kevin Federline, though Wallet abruptly stepped down from the role in March 2019.

According to The Blast, Wallet later stated: “The conservatorship is engaged in numerous ongoing business activities requiring immediate attention and it therefore is in the best interest of the conservatee [Britney Spears] that the acceptance of Wallet’s resignation and the issuance of amended letters of conservatorship of the estate occur immediately and without delay.”

Wallet added, “Substantial detriment, irreparable harm and immediate danger will result to the conservatee and her estate if the relief requested herein in not granted on an ex parte basis.”

In Monday’s court documents, Ingham divided Spears’ conservatorship into three phases, with the first being when “conservators rescued her from collapse, exploitation by predatory individuals and financial ruin.”

The second describes Britney Spears’ “performing years” as a “world-class entertainer,” explaining that she has not been on tour since October 2018 as part of an indefinite work hiatus.

The third added that Spears has no “desire … to perform at this time,” saying, “We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes.”

Earlier this month, Jamie slammed the ongoing #FreeBritney movement, telling New York Post’s Page Six: “All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything. The world don’t have a clue. It’s up to the court of California to decide what’s best for my daughter. It’s no one else’s business.”

A court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19.

I don't understand why someone who has a restraining order against them from their grandchildren is allowed to manage the affairs of their mother.

I also don't understand why someone who sings and performs complicated choreography on stage is not seen as mentally sound enough to own a mobile phone. If she was going to say stupid or mean shit she has had plenty of opportunity to while on stage. But she hasn't.

So much about her situation does not add up.

This whole situation reminds me of what happened to the Beach Boys lead singer, Brian Wilson , but it was his doctor who was doing it

I wish her luck on this endeavor, and I really hope she is successful.
