Ok so I realized my dog would absolutely aid in my abduction of a child the other day. This little kid was out and about and crossed the street to me to see my dog. He asked me my name and age and then told me his. He then asked where I lived and I had two thoughts “is this kid like a scout for someone who wants to kidnap me???” And then right on its heels “oh shit if I asked him where he lived he’d tell me, someone needs to teach this kid about stranger danger.” And my puppy is just wagging his tail and wiggling away, no idea he is kidnap bait lol.

This reminds me of when I was a little girl (maybe eight or nine) and an acquaintance of my mom's asked if I wanted to see something cool in his car. He took me outside and popped his trunk.

In retrospect I should have had reservations. This was not someone my mother knew well and she didn't know I'd gone out to his car with him.

To be fair, though, what he showed me was pretty cool. He was smuggling an artifact from the middle east. It was an ancient pottery piece he kept wrapped in newspaper and plastic in a cooler. I wasn't allowed to touch it, though, and he told me I couldn't tell anyone about it so I have a feeling it wasn't totally legal for him to have it.

My mom knew some interesting people.

My husband and I were staying at a semi- remote cabin up in the mountains for our honeymoon - at night it's pitch black and the closest neighbor is a km away. Our first night there someone knocks on the door; I get nervous but figure it's the neighbor checking in. Nope - it's a hunter in full hunting gear who managed to get separated from his friend. He'd been wandering around since sundown, completely lost, and when he saw the lights in the distance, he followed them to our cabin. He was nice enough and asked for our help calling his friend and giving him directions to the main road. He came in and sat in the foyer while we talked to the friend, and then we drove him down to the main road. Sure enough, his friend drove up in a truck, picked him up, they waved and went on their way. Later I kept thinking about how easy we'd have been if the guy was a serial killer or something. I was a little nervous the whole time, but we still let him in. 🤦‍♀️
