Whats weird about the lore is just how well the writing team does for the narratives of zones and world building, but then completely flounders when it comes to the overarching lore of the xpac. Usually its vice versa, isn't it?
Hey! The community begged the creative development team not to make Sylvannas' story Garrosh 2.0. Sylvannas fans thought she deserved better, and everyone else simply didn't want the same damn story.
And the cdevs told us at the beginning of BFA that we weren't going to get Garrosh 2.0. They heard us, they understood, they had something way different in mind.
So then, with our hard won trust, they... gave us Garrosh 2.0.
