At 16 my guidance counselor told me I wasn’t good enough at math to go into the space field. Just received my undergrad diploma in applied mathematics and in 2 weeks I start working on my masters in space sciences and engineering. Follow your gut and do the thing!

They’ll let almost anyone be a councilor.

My wife’s guidance counselor in high school said the same thing when she said she wanted to be a doctor. The GC told her that a more realistic goal would be to be a nurse. My wife finished her residency in dermatology last year and had been president of her medical school. Keep up the good work and let the naysayers motivate you by proving them wrong.

School counselor here and I never say that someone isn't good enough to be a certain thing. I think I try to guide and look for strengths and see if it's a good fit but always leave room for hidden talents to develop.

Thank you for this reminder for making sure I encourage and motivate students towards a direction positively and not in spite of me. Congrats on your success and may this be the beginning!
