Never ignore your inner voice. If you feel a nudge to help someone, do it. You really don't know what people are going through. Your kindness might be exactly what they need.
I recently left my previous office (military and I was being stationed elsewhere) and the superintendent of my squadron, looks like The Rock, a boisterous man who just exudes energy, masculinity, and positivity, got up to speak at my going away. He said that when he’s having a bad day, no one would ever know (and this is true, could never tell), and he makes sure no one can tell because you know, military and professionalism and he’s an E8, he’s the top enlisted in our squadron. But he went on to say that when he is having a bad day, he always comes to talk to me because I never failed to make him feel better and like, I didn’t cry at the time, too many people around, but I definitely cried in the car on my way home. It was so touching to know I was there for somebody and didn’t even know, that I made anyone’s day better at all. It really put into perspective those times when he popped in and little E3 me was a little annoyed because I was trying to work and here he was messing with my flow, but the conversations were always fun and left me feeling positive even when my flow was interrupted. Will never take those moments for granted again. Love that man.
