Because Disney movies are generally black and white with no shades of grey. Cops hate shades of grey. That's why they think "He was no angel" is a valid, convincing argument. They see the world as divided up between good guys and bad guys, with no middle ground. If someone was a "bad guy" the shooting was valid in their eyes, even if the "bad guy" wasn't being bad at the time. No one would be mad if Cruella deVil or Jafar got killed early in the movie before the hatched their big plot. No one would fault the heroes for bring preemptive, least of all cop families. If Robinhood Hatched a plan to assassinate Price John or Mufasa threw scar off that cliff, most people would feel their actions are justified. In the minds of a cop and the supporters of cop, the rest of the world is just as Black-and-white. Thats the whole idea between the Line Blue Line Philosophy. There is Black on one side, white on the other, and a thin line of blue dividing them.

Sergeant Smith, you just violated the constitutional rights of four citizens. What are you going to do next? "I'm going to Disneyland!"

Alternate, but more technical: Sergeant Smith, you just received qualified immunity for murder, what are you going to do next. "I'm going to Disneyland!"
