One good idea I've heard is to only ever buy overalls. Just have your kids wear overalls until they're 18 years old and go to college. Nothing but overalls. Think of all the time you'll save.

Overalls are great. It's like the magical combination of pants and an apron. They are the centaur version of clothing. Advantages: There's lots of pockets. They're rugged. You don't have to buy belts. There's lots of fun buttons and clips and stuff. They also save shirts from pesky food stains. Food that you would have slopped on your shirt instead gets slopped on your overalls, where the greasy meatball you just tried to eat conveniently falls into your front pocket.

That's a nice snack for later, my friend.

Give your kids overalls. Laundry will become entertaining and annoying as you search one at a time through 50 pockets and collect a variety of found objects, critters, and uneaten food. Oh shit! I just stumbled across the reason why parents don't like pockets on their kids clothing: You either will spend 90 minutes a week checking pockets, or you'll end up running a variety of weird objects through the wash.

Still, overalls are great. Especially if they're short-pants overalls. Those are hilarious. Every child should be running around barefoot in overalls at least for a short time in their life.

I have a 3-year-old boy; a lot of his shorts either have no pockets or fake ones, too. Drives me fucking crazy.
