Our neighbors did the same thing for their daughters wedding. Stripped all of our hydrangea plants. We told them they could take a couple to try them out as center pieces but they decided while we were out for the day to take advantage.
Someone DUG UP AND TOOK the flowers around my mailbox to be replanted. 3 out of the 8. Didn’t even bother filling the holes. And all from just one side so it was super obvious.
