The even cooler part is what's causing that to come to the surface. It's a bunch of your immune cells trying to continuously eat the rock but it is too big so they are just slowly pushing it to the surface.

I had pencil lead in my face for 16 years that kept being mistaken for a raised blue mole. It looked and felt solid, but when I had it removed it was not. What hadn't become part of my skin like tattoo ink was basically sand. They cut around it to remove all dyed skin and the mush of graphite. If your kid gets pencil lead in their face, do not expect it to be pushed out over time like my parents did. Get it removed right away.
