In Rise of the Guardians (2012), the tooth fairy identifies a mouse as a member of the “European division” of the tooth fairies. This mouse is “Ratoncito Perez”, a character from a Spanish children's book. In the Spanish dub of the movie, it is even called "Pérez".

As someone raised in Mexico until I was 8, I remember being super confused to learn that Americans had a fairy instead of a mouse.

Even in South Africa we dont say the Tooth Fairy . We say the "Tand Muis" which translates to Tooth Mouse.
So as a young boy my parents would use the mouse concept and not fairy
