These are not purchase power parity adjusted figures, which, in my opinion is the better figure to assess how "shitty" a place is to live.

Personal Highlights:

Aerospace: Home to the nations largest rocket engine test complex and every commercial airplane in the world has had at least one component made in Mississippi.

Information Technology: Home to one of the DoD's most powerful supercomputer

Advanced Manufacturing: 70% of the Navys warships were manufactured in Mississippi. Howard Industries, the largest transformer manufacturer in the US, is headquartered in Mississippi.

Agribusiness: Top 20 producer for 15 agricultural commodities. Ranked 6th nationally fir R&D in agricultural sciences.

Personal Note: Visited southern Mississippi before: hot and humid as hell, easily some of the best seafood I have ever had, great southern hospitality, didn't have the opportunity to discuss politics though.
