As a non American, I find American history to be really interesting (although there isn't as much of it as other continents). You've got stuff like the Oregon trail and the Donner party, then eventually the hand built transcontinental railway. You've got weirdos like the mormons who somehow made salt lakes farmable. Then there's the natives and their culture then their systematic oppression and eviction by the settlers using homesteads, treaties they couldn't understand, and buffalo hunting.
Just want to say that it's ok to be fixated on one period or subject in history. You don't have to be knowledgeable about African and Asian history if all you like studying is land ownership laws in pre-Christian Ireland.
