I’ve tried explaining this to so many people but they refuse to believe it.

Met the opposite, had a conservative teacher that hide it its extremists religious and right wing beliefs as "psychology" and "philosophy", told me once in a hot sunny summer that I had "behaviour problems" because I wear a cap !!!

I'm over simplifying things here, but I'm a white guy with a HUGE extended family, grew up going mainly to white schools, so obviously I've spent a lot of time around a lot of different white people. I grew up and still live in a predominately black neighborhood. For about 5 years, I worked in a predominately LatinX career. For about a decade I worked in a predominantly Asian career. I'm not religious, but my wife is, so I've known a lot of church goers from her side of the family. I'm also in the San Francisco area, so in all of those different groups, there are plenty of LGBTQ people. Well not T, I'll be honest, I've never known a trans person. But every other group, I feel like I've known plenty of people. Not just one token friend from each group, but a large variety. I've spent a lot of time with and gotten to know different groups of people throughout my life. And you know what I've learned? They're all the same.

All of them. Sure, the cultures are different. They might like different foods, different music, etc. But the people, they're all the same. Some are good, you would die for them. Some are assholes you don't want to spend time with unless you have to. But it's not their ethnicity or sexuality that determines that.

People in ethnically diverse cities tend to vote liberal. Conservatives will argue that it's because the minorities there voting blue. Well sure, but the white people in these locations vote liberal as well. Because they're exposed to minorities on a daily bases, and when you get to know them, you realize they're more than their media depictions. A part of me understands, if you're in some small town in Idaho or Iowa or one of those all white states, now many minorities would you have encountered, let alone gotten to know well? So I understand how your entire view on minorities would be based on stereotypes. I just wish people were more willing to expand their worldview. But I think it's that simple. Just spend time with people who are different then you, and you'll realize they're really not that different.
