Not sure why that reminded me of this, but one time my friend was telling me that he was at the store and this old woman gave him $20 and walked away. He didn’t even have a chance to say anything to her.

I was in middle school in Sacramento. We had just moved across town but I didn't change schools. I was taking 2 busses and a light rail to get to and from school everyday. It was clear one morning as I left, I didn't bother with a jacket. But as I walked from the first bus stop to the train, it began to rain. I was soaked pretty quickly but just kept on waking. This car pulled out in front of me as I crossed a parking lot. I was kind of zoned out and when it pulled across my path I kinda froze and just stared at this guy as he pulled out this blue and white stripped umbrella and handed it to me. I took it and all I could get out was thanks (it just really caught me off guard). He told me he couldn't stand to see me get any more soaked and drove off. I kept that umbrella for over a decade before finally choosing to pass it on to someone else I saw in the same situation.

I remember waiting for the bus in the middle of winter in Wisconsin on the corner that had a bakery. Every morning the owner would come out and give me two warm, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and a small hot cocoa.
