I very much remember where I was when I heard about the crash and then the back and forth as to whether she would live through the surgery.

That nail polish was a big "F U" as well, as Princesses weren't allowed non-neutral nail colors (usually only a light pink or a french manicure) and a dress like that would have been too edgy and too revealing by the monarchy.
