I've had friends who are doctors literally call an ambulance to take patients to another hospital who didn't like the gay or Muslim resident working with them. He had both happen running an ER.

Just says, "This is your doctor and they're excellent. If you choose to decline their care we will arrange an ambulance to another hospital."

Never thought the conversation would need to happen from.the doctor side, but I guess that was pretty naive of me.

I recently graduated from and am now starting my training at an explicitly Christian medical school.

At the beginning of this year, I shadowed a doc who told me how uncomfortable he felt treating gay HIV patients choosing to live a lifestyle in affront to God bringing it on themselves...

...in 1983.

He had a moral crisis, realized how unchristlike he was behaving, and started working and was still working in his low income HIV clinic decades later when I shadowed, this despite barely being able to see the EMR in his advanced age. This old man still treating all his patients with such respect and kindness so many years later after reorienting his life against the beliefs he was raised with in one road-to-Damascus event- pretty special to see! 😭
