Way I always saw it, and this is from a former army cook ffs. If you're crazy enough to enlist, or crazy enough to get/accept "go to war or go to jail"; then you're the right kind of crazy I'd entrust to have my back when shit hits the fan.
I served during the antiquated "don't ask, don't tell" times, what a crock of shit that idea was; glad it's been done away.
