WTAF? In the restaurant business if you don't show up for a shift you just quit your job. What's so special about cops that they can piss off on a tantrum?

If you have a doctor that says "I won't save anyone unless I can abuse some of my patients" that means you need a new doctor

Edit: Getting a lot of backlash from very angry people, and buried under that anger there are some good points. I kinda want to engage in more discussion with those but honestly the volume of responses and rants is making it hard.

Here's a shortened version of some of my stances in a mass response:

No. I don't think all cops are evil or that my comedically exaggerated analogy is a 1 to 1 to what cops think

Yes I do think Rashard Brooks' shooting was justified legal. (Avoidable, but reasonable use of force)

police brutality is a sweeping problem

police restructuring to improve and emphasize de-escalation training, increase the scrutiny and accountability on officers, and reduce the roles police fill in handling societal issues is necessary for a safer, more just nation.

This response to increased scrutiny is harmful towards the goals these officers want to achieve.

They are within their rights to resign, however an effective emergency service can't tolerate strikes.

The fact that the police force cannot or will not mobilize a similar reaction towards brutality within their ranks or calls to reform is of notable concern to me.

There are police unions organizing walk outs and mass resignations in reaction to what's happening right now. One might be tempted to say "hey, maybe we're going too far." But I cannot stress this enough: if the mere mention of accountability makes these cops threaten to leave, PLEASE LET THEM. If someone thinks they can't do their job while also being accountable for their actions, getting them out of that job as fast as physically possible is the absolute best outcome for literally everyone! (including them)
