Few very interesting facts reading his Wikipedia page: first black American to ever receive the navy cross. Died in action in 1944 during a battle at sea against the Japanese. Yesterday, it was announced by the Navy that they’ll be naming an aircraft carrier after him.

Cant think of a higher degree of honor than to have a motha fucken CARRIER named after you.
