My diy skills were terrible until I bought a house. Now, a few years later, my diy skills are very good. I suspect the same is true for older generations, they just forgot about that very small transition period, because it was so long ago.
Pretty sure millennial dads aren't good at diy because their boomer parents didn't teach them those skills... Edit :I'm mostly referring to the boomer mentality, not necessarily the generation itself.
