Will Penence brands share energy if there are 2 brands on a single target? or must they each build up their own supply to 20 energy?

I'm confused by Wintertide Brand, it can only attach for 2 seconds but lasts 6. So do you cast, it attaches for 2, detaches and immediately reattach?
Also, when it the AoE created since a mob can have 3 on it? Do all 3 have to expire for it to create the AoE (Outside of the mob dying or being recalled)? Ex: What happens if you cast brand A, 1 second goes by and you put a second brand B on it, after 1 more second A falls off but B is still on, is an AoE created or you have to wait for B to fall off?
