30 years ago an older aunt was complaining about something I’d never heard about/thought about before. In her small town, she told me that the boys she knew in high school, who were the mean, crazy, delinquent, bullies ......became the cops in that same small town.
It was apropos of explaining that she was pulled over that day by the cops and why she wasn’t ticketed or anything. At that age I thought the only Real Criminals were apprehended by the police, and if you were a criminal who was apprehended by the police you definitely were Going to Jail. Like on TV. I was astounded that she, an apparent non criminal, had been pulled over and more amazingly, didn’t immediately have to go to jail.
Imagine my kid jaw drop when she explained “he claimed I didn’t stop LONG ENOUGH at a stop sign (small town, zero traffic) but of course I did a full stop and he was just being a dick. When he pulled me over and I saw it was Rufus from high school I was like “Rufus I don’t have time for this shit” and drove off....
She went on. “Rufus crapped his pants during the 5th grade play. I’ll be damned if I’ll let him harangue me..”
