The police will say:

1 bullet does not guarantee safety, you shoot at centre mass until the target stops “being a threat”.

Although the sword might have been plastic, the officers genuinely feared for their life and believed it to be real.

A man with a /real/ sword, therefore, is a credible threat and they had no option but to shoot (?).

It’s hard to say what their actual reasons would be without seeing any body cam footage. You’d imagine it going something like:

PoPo - “Put the sword down”

Person - “It isn’t real!”

PoPo - “He’s not cooperating!” Bang x 6 —-

All the police have to say is that they genuinely believed the situation was dangerous and they basically never get prosecuted.

It’s just proof that if you never give the shitty officers the sack, your force never changes.

Edit: hey OP, mind not spreading misinformation? His sword wasn’t plastic. Also, here's another article that says the sword was metal but in a plastic sheath. His death was a tragedy, and almost certainly preventable, but we don't need to lie about it to bring justice.

Article about the incident. The police claimed they shot him when he lunged at them, but the autopsy showed that he was shot in the back. I’m no expert, but I think it’s impossible to lunge backwards.

Edit: here’s a video too. It appears to show the police shooting him in the back as he runs away.

Edit: since most people won’t bother to read the article anyway, I should point out that the officers involved in the shooting weren’t interviewed until almost a week later, giving them time to corroborate their stories

I thought that having the officers wear bodycams would've made this a clear-cut case as to whether or not the shooting was justified, but I was wrong, because one of the officers was wearing a camera but "forgot" to press record. I really don't think it was an accident that there was no video.

Reminds me of the video of the black dude picking up trash to clean his neighborhood and police were called because he was "armed" with a trash claw. The police man who arrived on the scene drew his gun on him and shouted at him to drop the weapon and called a lot of reinforcements.
