Houston police say they're investigating a video showing a mounted patrol officer trampling a woman protesting during Friday's demonstration over the officer-involved death of former Houston resident George Floyd.

The video, posted to Twitter, was taken near police headquarters along Travis Street in the afternoon. Alison Amador, who recorded the video, told Chron.com the demonstrators were surrounding another demonstrator who had been injured during a scuffle with police when the mounted officer came through.

DOWNTOWN PROTESTS: HPD arrests nearly 200, four officers injured

In the video, the officer on the horse appears to blow a whistle, which is meant to warn people that the horse is coming through.

"When things got louder, the cops brought in horses," Amador said. "From my point of view, it looked like to me the cop saw her standing there but continued to plow through."

Houston police said they are "currently reviewing the circumstances behind the incident," although the scope of the investigation is unclear.

In a tweet thread, Houston Police Officers Union Vice President Doug Griffith put the blame on the protester who was knocked over.

"The whistle is to warms (sic) people," Griffith said. "If you don’t pay attention, then that’s on your (sic)!"

" Houston police say they're investigating "

This is the problem that ALL of these issues stem from. The absolute insanity of Police "investigating" themselves. I mean imagine if taxpayers were allowed to do this.

IRS: "Sir, we found some irregularities with you taxes, you owe us 35K"

Me: "Ok, I will investigate and let you know what I find"

IRS: "OK, thanks"

ME: "Investigation complete, I don't owe anything"

IRS: "Doesn't sound right, but OK"

So I can run over pedestrians as long as I blow my horn first? Good to know.
