Edit: in case someone doesn't want to open the link (I understand) it's an exhibit where they asked rape survivors what where they wearing when it happened.

Month old babies get raped, senior citizens get raped, women who dressed modestly get raped, men get raped. Rape is about power, not sex, and statements like this blame the victim while ignoring the perpetrator.

Edit: Yes there can be a sexual component for rape as well. I'm not minimizing anyone's experience and I'm sorry if it came across that I did, it was not my intention. I also apologise for doing that in some of my replies. That was definitely not my intention.

There can be many causes for rape. And there are too many studies and also not enough to pinpoint any single cause. But can we atleast agree not to blame the victim for it.

Even if, which is not backed up by any evidence, the way a woman dressed increased or decreased the risk, so fucking what?

It's like saying you deserve to have your house robbed if you don't have a certain level of security installed. No you fucking don't. It is utterly irrelevant. The crime is the same and the culpability of the offender is the same.

And for any other type of crime, we don't instantly focus on the personal appearance of the victim (except maybe when looking at racist fuck cops shooting non-whites). Oh, an old lady got robbed? What was she wearing? Was she wearing make up? Oh, a middle aged person's car got stolen. Was the car provocatively parked? Was it a slutty car with a spoiler on it that was just begging to be stolen? Fuck me.

This shit is just another lazy way to police women's bodies and behaviours instead of turning the focus onto the perpetrator.
