I completely understand following & respecting your parent’s rules while you live with them but trying to control your child always makes them distance themselves. And if they can’t do it themself, they’ll end up with someone who will lend them the strength to do so.

I absolutely hate the idea that parents can’t be both a parent & a friend when they need it.

My mother invaded every aspect of my life until I moved out. It didn’t matter how old was or if I paid bills. It was her house. There was no room for negotiation. She made our lives miserable. We barely speak. I have two children now. They’re pretty open with us since we give them their space.
