John Krasinski Hit by Massive Backlash for Selling Some Good News to CBS All Access

John Krasinski is getting slammed on social media for selling Some Good News to CBS. It was announced last week that Krasinski had sold the web series after hosting it for the past eight weeks on YouTube. The actor/director first had the idea for the show seven years ago, but figured that now was the perfect time to deliver it to the world. Krasinski was right. Within two months, he had amassed over 2 million subscribers and episodes were getting watched by an average of 17 million people.

As it turns out, John Krasinski was offered big money for Some Good News right after the first episode premiered on YouTube. However, he was hesitant to take that kind of deal on, though he had no problem taking corporate sponsors who helped him raise a lot of money for charity. The show is dedicated entirely to good news, but a lot of fans do not think it's very good news that Krasinski has sold the show.

One person on social media had a rather harsh take on John Krasinski selling Some Good News. She says, "Remember when he created this free feel good YouTube show to 'make people feel good' and now he is... selling it for $$$? really cool, 100% honorable." The news spread far and wide, with a lot of people calling Krasinski a sellout. You can read another negative reaction below.

"I hate this so much. Some Good News was pure and wonderful and ViacomCBS using it as a 'multiplatform showcase across the conglomerate's brands' makes me want to stab myself in the eyeballs. THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS."

Another person piled on, "You got to love when what seemed like an act of goodwill... can be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Mmmmm taste that sweet, sweet capitalism." It doesn't look good on the surface, but John Krasinski more than likely knows what he is doing with this new venture. He hasn't been the actor to jump at the chance of making money throughout his career and this really isn't the time for him to start.

John Krasinski will no longer serve as the host of Some Good News, but he will remain on board as a producer. The actor seems excited to bring the show to a new and wider audience who aren't always used to hearing good news. "Thanks to you, SGN lives on, joining the ranks of this historic news network! See you all soon!" said Krasinski in a statement. Whatever the case may be, there are still a lot of people are having a hard time with Krasinski selling the show that he created over seven years ago. You can check out John Krasinski's Twitter statement below, along with some criticism of the announcement.

Wow who can believe when we started this thing together we all just wanted good news to be more fully represented in our everyday lives. And now? You quite literally ARE the good news! Thanks to you, SGN lives on, joining the ranks of this historic news network! See you all soon! https://t.co/gB3CSBHwjv — John Krasinski (@johnkrasinski) May 22, 2020

Finding out Some Good News #SGN has been sold to be put behind a paywall on #CBSAllaccess is so disheartening. "Yeah, you can have your good news, if you pay us 5.99 a month for it." Way to completely lose the integrity behind it. — Leah Rantz (@Leah_Rants) May 21, 2020

So he made 8 YouTube videos comprised largely of unpaid contributions from fans, sold the brand to a major conglomerate, and isn't even going to make it anymore? Just cashed out? Does this rub anyone else the wrong way, kinda? https://t.co/7OlRIouJKM — Lon Harris (@Lons) May 22, 2020

You got to love when what seemed like an act of goodwill during a pandemic can be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Mmmmm taste that sweet sweet capitalism. https://t.co/BSS4BZTmga — Honey, I Shrunk Nathan Hartman (@somestuffisaid) May 21, 2020

I mean, this was certainly Good News for the Blunt-Krasinskis. I'm not sure about anyone else. — Lon Harris (@Lons) May 22, 2020

Good news for people who love bad news! — RickyFTW (@rickyftw) May 22, 2020

I'm constantly disappointed in to growing trend of "wokenomics" and "commercializing compassion." It seems the only model Hollywood is putting forth anymore is "what if they already famous people did the least amount of work and we paid them more?" — Brendan Bradley (@brendanAbradley) May 22, 2020

im sure the winning video makers will win some turtle wax — Larry Rosenthal (@LarryRosenthal) May 22, 2020

In all fairness, it’s some good news to Krasinski...
