I was in my early 20's when 9/11 happened, and I remember right-wingers being so pissed at France for not wanting to be part of the "Coalition of the Willing" that they started calling french fries "freedom fries" and even talked about starting protests to send the Statue of Liberty back. It was the weirdest shit I had ever encountered in the political sphere online and I thought we had definitely hit rock bottom.
