Dr. Frederick Banting discovered insulin in 1923, he refused to put his name on the patent. He felt it was unethical for a doctor to profit from a discovery that would save lives. Banting's co-inventors, James Collip and Charles Best, sold the insulin patent to the University of Toronto for $1.
This is such a nice story. It's wonderful for the kids but imagine how the parents must have felt? Probably one of the greatest days of their lives. Imagine the dread they must have felt knowing their kid had what was basically a death sentence.

I couldn't imagine watching my baby suffer and not being able to help. Thank goodness for modern medicine!
