Her thought is such an interesting perspective. To her the difference in languages is an obvious differentiation because of where she's from. To her son it's obvious that it isn't because of where they are.

People ask me if i'm chinese, then japanese, the give up guessing. I'm korean.

I can't differentiate Thai and Vietnamese, but I can differentiate Korean, Chinese and Japanese due to fairly unique sounds in all of them.
If I can't recognize it at all, it's cantonese.
