It’s funny how spot on this is. In grad school I had a tenured professor tell us that his favorite book of all time was “how to talk about books you haven’t read”. He said it’s the most important skill in grad school 😂. Had another professor tell us that nobody actually expected us to read all the material they gave us but instead to learn how to skim and find important information to draw conclusions. I know it’s not common for professors to admit but it was really funny to hear it. I was actually able to read the book “how to talk about books you haven’t read”. They had a great chapter on school assignment and another one on games professors could play around books they haven’t read. Great book, would recommend!

I'll have to try this with my middle school students next year. They constantly tell me how bad they feel for me because I have to deal with them, then promptly do the things they know make my job more difficult.
