Traumatizing is an understatement here. The image of a child instantly dead right in front of their parent is terrifying to think about, let alone actually happening.

When I was in like 5th grade, we did a pen pal type exchange with a school in LA (we're in a tiny, midwestern town). They were a couple years younger, so I would have been 10/11, and they were 8/9. We did a couple rounds of letters and I was starting to get to know my penpal, and looking forward to each exchange. The next round, I didn't get a letter from him. I talked to my teacher who called their teacher and pulled me aside a few days later. Turns out he was struck by a stray round from a drive by while in his room. Died on scene. This shit is terribly tragic.

Wow my heart, I felt this one. Growing up in a gang populated area this shit happens more than most people think.

When I was around 5, while my mother drove me to school with my brother and sister in the car, we heard a loud sound. Something like metal hitting metal. Now no one was hurt, however the car started leaking gasoline from that point on. The car was taken to the mechanic and in the gas tank was a bullet, and a large entry hole. We weren't in the right place then financially, so our tank was mostly empty. Apparently the situation would have been a lot worst if there was enough fumes and gas in the tank to catch the Sparks.
