I had something similar when I first bought a property. I had an in ground pool installed in the backyard. The neighbor had a very large mostly dead tree (only half grew leaves at any point in the year) in his yard that would block the sun from hitting my new pool which kept it chilly. I reach out to him and ask if I would pay for its complete removal including stump would he allow it because I wanted my pool to get sun. He flipped his shit like I asked to have sex with his wife or something. I do Hvac and electrical work so since he told me no I went and installed a gas fired pool heater and enjoyed my perfect temp pool. Flash forward 1.5years and I get home from work one day to see the neighbor having all 5 remaining trees on his property removed (1 fell during a bad storm and damaged his garage). I thought awesome I'll run the pool heater less since I'll get direct sunlight daily now. He had the balls to try to pawn off the entire bill to me because I offered to cut down that 1 tree 1.5 years ago. I never laughed so hard in my life and told him to fuck off.
