As someone with hearing issues this is the only way I survive. People start to get upset that they won't speak clearly and loudly enough for me to understand them, so instead of trying to continue the conversation I give up and say "sure" and "you're right" in such a way as to express that I really don't feel that way but you might as well be silent for all the good your talking is doing.
It's not my fault I can't understand you, if you want to talk you're going to have to do so in a discernable fashion or I'm just going to shut down and walk away.
