Maybe that same friend is wondering why you’re not the one checking up on them though? The phone works both ways

One of my best friends works at a grocery store. He is also my meme buddy, we align in interest so I send him more memes than I do anyone probably the same for him. His hours have gotten crazier for obvious reasons but I kept on sending memes like usual with no response from him for a couple of weeks. I finally thought oh shit maybe this is the exact thing that he doesn’t want to see and said something to that effect, that I loved, missed him and to stay safe. He hit me back almost immediately saying I love your concern but I need the funny it’s keeping me normal.

Now I could’ve got hella mad saying I’ve texted you with no reply for 3 weeks and now you reply immediately to say lol thanks for the memes???

I was just glad to hear from him and to know that I was able to provide him some relief. He’s become more responsive as he’s adjusted to constant chaos. I wouldn’t have been mad if the meme stream continued. I wouldn’t have been mad even if he wasn’t an essential worker. Beyond the idea everyone is dealing with their own shit, everybody processes it differently. Even typical reactions could be flipped cuz nobody has gone through this before. We’re all blind, thrashing in the middle of the ocean trying not to drown. And some of us can’t fucking swim.

Before the pandemic, I just wanted to be left alone. Nothing has changed. I have great friends. I’ll see them after this is over.
