This means that of the 268 Covid-19 cases confirmed in Vietnam so far, 201 have been discharged, including three foreigners on Saturday.

The remaining patients are under treatment at 17 facilities across the country. Among them, 20 have tested negative at least once.

Hanoi is treating the largest number of patients, 29, followed by the northern province of Ninh Binh with 10 and HCMC with five.

The latest Covid-19 case, confirmed Thursday morning, is a 16-year-old Hmong girl from the mountainous province of Ha Giang that borders China, where her three brothers work as freelancers.

Around 63,000 people are currently quarantined in Vietnam, of whom around 11,500 are in quarantine zones, while the rest are self-isolated at home.

The Covid-19 pandemic has spread to 210 countries and territories, and the reported death toll has crossed 160,400.

I live in Vietnam, the government is doing an amazing job controlling the virus. I feel mostly safe here. But that comes with very strict rules, a lessening of individual rights and quarantine camps. I was placed in a quarantine camp as well as everyone on my floor of the apartment as I was ‘near’ a positive case. They closed my entire apartment building for 14 days and no one could leave, not for food, to let a dog out etc. I tested negative but they still had my building on lockdown.

Again. I’m thankful they are taking such a strong stance but it does suck when you get woken at 11pm to knocking on your door, told to pack a bag and get ferried to a quarantine island.

Edit: I am trying to be fair, I had a bad experience (some of which I won't talk about here) but just because I had a bad time doesn't mean it wasn't an effective measure in a global pandemic that has helped save peoples lives. I am not explaining about every camp and everyones experience as they are all very different but just sharing what happened to me. I love Vietnam and am thankful I get to live here, we should feel proud of this country and how low our numbers are.

I currently live in Vietnam and I can say that the government is being very straightforward and transparent with this. I own a business here and we were shut down over a month ago, and many other businesses were closed even before that. The reaction was weeks ahead of most western countries and the people genuinely follow the lockdown orders. The hospitals aren’t experiencing any strain. This is actually a case of a population that handled things perfectly.

People often miss Vietnam but the country has had one of the best responses in the world regarding this virus. It is not talked much about in the news for some reason. Only Taiwan comes close to it.
