I'm living with my elder cat who is just starting to show signs of age, and this is breaking my heart.

Can't imagine having to live without my baby :(

My kids have grown up and moved out and my wife of 24 years died of motor neurone disease (ALS) a few weeks before all this lockdown stuff started. I haven't lived alone for almost 30 years and I've forgotten how. It's been hell, and ok I'm done with reddit for the day.

EDIT: Wow - now I'm crying. Thanks for all the offers of support. So many to respond to. Also, I do have a dog, but he's not with me at the moment. In the months before my wife died it was taking so much time and attention to look after her, what with constant in/out of hospital and not being able to leave her unattended at home in case she started having breathing problems etc, that I was worried I wouldn't be able to look after the dog properly, so he went for a holiday to my mothers place, but now with the lockdown I can't go get him as it's a long trip.
