BongHive Assemble: ‘Parasite’ and 3 Other Bong Joon-ho Films Are Now Streaming on Hulu

Calling all members of the BongHive: Parasite is now streaming on Hulu.

You probably heard all about Bong Joon-ho‘s South Korean thriller when it took home the Oscar for Best Picture in January—becoming the first non-English language film to do so—but not everyone had the chance to catch this incredible film in theaters before the pandemic shut down movie theaters nationwide. But now, thanks to Hulu’s exclusive streaming deal with the independent film production company NEON, Hulu subscribers can stream Parasite from the comfort (and safety) of their living room.

*Infomercial voice* But wait, there’s more! Not only can Hulu subscribers now stream Parasite, but they can also stream three of Bong Joon-ho’s earlier films that were added to the streaming service today: Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Mother (2009) and The Host (2006). Just to give you a quick overview: Barking Dogs Never Bite, Bong’s directorial debut, is a dark comedy about an unemployed college professor who kidnaps the dogs who are constantly barking his apartment. Mother is a drama about an unnamed widow who’s fiercely protective of her son, and The Host is a gruesome horror film about a man whose daughter is kidnapped by a monster. In other words, there’s a Bong movie for everyone on Hulu right now, and each comes with that signature Bong Joon-ho touch.

But the feature presentation, is, of course, Parasite. If you’re wary of queuing up a potentially boring Oscar-bait film, let me assure you that Parasite is the furthest thing possible from boring or Oscar-bait. Despite the Academy’s usual preference for slow-moving, depressing dramas, Parasite is a lively, fast-paced thriller, packed with exciting twists and turns. The story builds onto itself masterfully, and you’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time. And definitely don’t let subtitle-phobia keep you from one of the best movie-watching experiences you’ll ever have. Just remember what your elementary school librarian told you: Reading is fun.

Missing the king of his films - Memories of a Murder.

All these films are fantastic and need to be viewed if you haven't though. Bong is truly one of the most gifted and dynamic directors around, and these four films kind of prove it
