My aunt had a similar story. They found what they thought was their missing cat dead on a street and buried him in the yard. 2 months later the real one came back like nothing happened. What was even more bizarre was he stayed with some guy a village over in that time and said guy somehow figured out where they lived and sent them roleplay letters addressed to their cat, written from his own cat's perspective, poor spelling and grammar included. Utterly bizarre.
Had the exact same thing happening to me. My mom thought our cat ran away and she took home a cat which she thought it was ours. In the time she took home the other cat I found mine laying somwhere hidden behind clothes in my closet. they looked identical with the only difference being mine was fatter.
