I had the exact same happen to me, I brought home an identical cat and I thought is was mine until it started shitting and peeing in random places around the house
My aunt had a similar story. They found what they thought was their missing cat dead on a street and buried him in the yard. 2 months later the real one came back like nothing happened. What was even more bizarre was he stayed with some guy a village over in that time and said guy somehow figured out where they lived and sent them roleplay letters addressed to their cat, written from his own cat's perspective, poor spelling and grammar included. Utterly bizarre.
