Theres another picture taken right near there in the 1930s of the SS Normandie steaming into NYC. It's a very thought provoking picture, just like this one.

This is the USNS Comfort, one of two Navy hospital ships that are docked to ease the strain on hospitals in the two most populous U.S. cities. The USNS Mercy arrived here in Los Angeles a few days ago, and I believe they started taking (non-COVID-19) patients today.

ETA more info for anyone interested:

Here is a picture of the Mercy in San Pedro (Port of LA). If you zoom in you can see the workers on the dock next to it, which shows you how huge it is. It started taking patients a couple days ago, actually, not today like I originally thought.
