The problem isn't spending lots of time with them, it's that you are pretty limited in activities. Kids get bored, restless and act up, just like adults do.
I have a five year old. Normally, "go play with other kids" is what kids are built to do. Or go to the park, go grab a cookie at the cafe, watch her play on the swings, and tons of other stuff.
