As Seen In... Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Saving Private Ryan, The Adventures of Tintin We know Steven Spielberg for a few well-renowned trademarks: single parents (mainly mothers), sentimentally, scores by his long-time collaborator John Williams, and characters staring intently at something with a sense of unrivalled awe (mainly aliens). What you might not have noticed, however, is the man's soft spot for including the occasional shooting star, for no other reason than... well, what's wrong with putting a shooting star in a movie, huh? But actually, there is an explanation for this trademark. Whilst making Jaws, legend has it that Spielberg and his crew accidently filmed the shooting star you can glimpse briefly in the movie - you can see it during the third act on the boat, during the night sequence, as it moves behind Brody's head. Since then, Spielberg has opted to include a shooting star in the background of his movies as a good luck charm, usually before something climatic or big happens.

I love the part where the greedy mayor keeps the beaches open for money! So far-fetched! No sane person would let people die to prop up businesses, amirite? Such an unbelievable premise could ONLY happen in fiction!

In Close Encounters, there is a shooting star near the beginning of the film. But as it shoots across the frame, it suddenly slows down and changes direction and you realize it is one the ships that Roy is about to encounter on the road.
