I broke into tears receiving this from our landlords this morning. My wife works at a public school, closed for the foreseeable future, and I’m a piano technician. Both of our incomes have disappeared this last week and we’ve been in a panic as to how we’re going to keep a roof over our heads. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and even without a global pandemic, we struggle to make our rent payments.

We’re still reeling from the immensity of our relief and gratitude. Please note that here is an example of Boomers understanding of the struggles of two millennials and extending their compassion. It’s our sincere hope that the millions of people sharing our uncertainties during this strange moment are shown similar love.

*Edit: Thanks so much for all the kindness so many of you have shared. Much of what we assumed was just-how-it-is has changed so quickly, and much of the change gives me hope for the greater challenges we’re all faced with beyond this pandemic.

To those who have actually offered us money to help with what expenses remain, wow. Wow again. Your generosity is astounding. Our landlord’s offer puts us in the clear for now, but please know how moved we are by your willingness to help complete strangers. Certainly so many won’t be as lucky as we’ve been. There are probably more (or perhaps better) ways to help, but consider donating here:

To the landlords of reddit, I don’t at all mean to imply that this was an easy move for our landlords to have made. On the contrary. It’s tremendously generous and very likely a significant sacrifice. This isn’t an easy time for anyone. If we all do what we’re able to do, and safely, we stand a better chance of passing through this challenge more quickly and with greater unity.

That's awesome! My landlord send me a certified letter Friday raising my rent $100.00 and wants me to sign a new 12 month least by the begining of April. Good to see that humanity is still keeping it's head in all this.

Edit: Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I didn't mean to hijack the thread by accident. unfortunately I'm in the circumstance where I have been in a month-to-month rental that was never actually under any kind of contract or lease. it was a verbal agreement and I simply paid the rent every month on time never missed a payment. With the state I'm in I believe they have a 90-day memorandum suspending or canceling any evictions currently. So I guess I'll just wait it out until we can start looking at another place. Kind of in a spot to buy a house anyways so I guess I'll just have to pull the trigger on that.

I'm so happy for you guys. I was late with rent this month and over a hundred bucks short, my landlord was not happy at all. They wanted the remainder rent asap or wanted us gone by 1st wk of April. And by we, I mean myself and my elderly mom who has some severe medical problems. I've been in my house for over 6 years and this was the first time I was short on my rent. I was freaking out and was talking about it here on Reddit. Without me even having to ask for help, a fellow Redditor that I didn't even know, sent me a DM and offered to pay my remaining rent balance. Humanity at its finest and I cried tears of joy. :)
