After scaring up audiences for twenty years, the Final Destination franchise is looking to start a new era, with a reboot announced this past January. Speaking with Digital Spy, series producer Craig Perry spoke about where he intends to take gory film series next.

“We’re toying with having it take place in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen, and police. These people deal with death on the front lines every day and make choices that can cause people to live or die,” Perry told Digital Spy. “We rely on their good judgment, expertise, and calm demeanor. So why not put those people in the nightmare situation where every choice can bring about life and death – but now for themselves? We’re thinking that world might be an interesting way into a Final Destination movie, and one which can also generate unique set pieces in a very credible way.”

While many fans will enjoy this new direction, many are curious if this will tie into the previous entries. Series creator Jeffrey Reddick spoke about those plans and where he sees it heading.

“I’ve been talking to Craig, and the concept behind it is unique. I think reboot is probably too strong of a word, it makes it sound like they’re going to change everything, but it’s definitely a Final Destination movie,” Reddick explained. “Craig is the master of coming up with crazy openings and set pieces. He’s told me a couple of things that happen in this one, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s not going feel like cash-grab Final Destination film.”

Both Perry and Reddick are trying to assure fans this will continue where all of the madness left off. Craig Perry even gave a bit of a tease of things to come, adding that: “I don’t think anybody will look at a revolving door in the same way again…”

Remember in the first one where after killing that kid by making him slip on water and getting that wire wrapped around his throat, Death covers up its... crime? by making the water go back where it came from, only for him to never do it again throughout the entirety of the franchise.

Hell yeah. It’s been too long since I’ve had an existential crisis.

A film that doesn't focus on the group of friends but the first responders who keep having to clean up these bizarre deaths would be a new take.
