This kind of river is called a 'meander'. It's what we get the term 'meandering' from

Edit: the bends themselves are the 'meanders'; not the river as a whole. Still where 'meandering' originates but thanks to u/a-crack for the correction!

I have a cabin on the banks of the mighty Oswegatchie River near the beginnings of the Adirondacks - it meanders like this river. The cabin is on one of the bends, and its seriously one of my favorite places in the entire world.
